English Matiff and bladder stones...?

My english mastiff was diagnosed with bladder stones 4 weeks ago. He has now had 2 surgeries to remove the stones from his bladder. Is there any way to prevent the stones from returning? He has been home 2 days nad hasn not been eating very well. I am very worried about his health, but the vet has stated that the stones are gone. Can stones return?
