Eliminating less garbage and how to reuse household items?

I have a goal of trying to elminate less garbage/thrash for mother earth. Some of the things i have though soo far is using cloth pads instead of tampons and diposiable pads, buying milk in a plastic jug, buying canned foods, buying bigger plastic bottles for shampoo, condition, etc and if reusing them for things like paint. What are some ways you have tried elminating thrash use and reusing household items without throwing it away.
